Boatwork
Langkawi
Compared to Phuket, the yachting industry is relatively
new to Langkawi. You can build marinas virtually overnight; the training
of marine engineers takes longer. It's slowly changing, but much mechanical
and electrical work has been done by transient (or not-so-transient)
sailors who were "between work permits." For obvious reasons,
they cannot be listed on a public website.
You can get most things done. Ask long-time liveaboards
for recommendations. There's almost always someone around with the
skills you need, admittedly some more qualified than others. If you
want your hull sanded down to bare glass, for instance, look for a
hull at Rebak that was done properly find out who did it and
insist on that person.
Note: The listings below are not intended as reviews,
but the companies and tradesmen are well established with many satisfied
customers. Reports of consistently inferior work or malfeasance will
result in de-listing.
