Marinas

Phuket
The island has two marinas. A third, the Royal Phuket Marina, announced in early 2002, has encountered planning problems, but the developer remains determined to get the project off the ground.

The Yacht Haven — 08°10.2'N 98°20.5'E
At the north end of the island, this lovely marina makes up for what it lacks in maintenance facilities with peace and tranquility, and few mosquitoes. It is the island's largest marina in terms of berths and has easy access to the starkly beautiful cruising grounds of Phang Nga Bay.

While the marina has all-tide access via buoyed channel (minimum depth 2.5 metres) separating Phuket from mainland, yachts should be wary of the strong tidal steam, and wait for a slack tide to enter or leave the marina. Note that tides here are about 1:45 hours behind the tidal predictions for Koh Thaphao Noi.

If arriving after office hours, arrange in advance for assistance. Or anchor just to the north of the marina and wait until morning. Marina is 15 minutes from Phuket airport (taxi 200-300 baht) and a 40-minute drive to Phuket town (500-600 baht). By sea, it's about five hours north of Ao Chalong.

Facilities/amenities:
• 158 wet berths for vessels up to 20 metres
• dockage space for superyachts 40 metres plus
• floating docks accessed by locked gates
• 24-hour security
• toilets and showers a short walk from docks
• 220-volt power supply to berths
• water to berths is spring fed and safe to drink
• fuel dock, or delivered to your berth
• three restaurants/pubs nearby
• Internet access, but no plugs for laptops
• mail holding
• full-service laundry (by the kilo)
• taxi service
• car and motorbike rental
• charts available

The Boat Lagoon enter at 07°58.65'N 98°24.9'E
This former mangrove swamp about halfway up the east coast of Phuket is very well protected. With a hard-stand and many on-shore contractors, it is also the best marina to have extensive work done on your boat. Almost any skill or service is available on-site or nearby. As well, it is close to Phuket Town.

Yachts drawing more than 1.5 metres must wait for a high tide to enter the channel, which has a maximum depth of 3.2 metres. The entrance is marked by pilings. Pick up the first one in Ao Tha Rua at 07°58.65'N 98°24.9'E. Berthing is limited, so make prior arrangements.

Water to berths is not for drinking, but marina office will arrange to have to have 20-litre bottles of drinking water (10 baht each) delivered and poured in your tanks.

Reasonably priced aircon rooms available for crew having work done on their boat or who just want to temporarily move ashore.

Facilities/amenities:
• 170 wet berths for vessels up to 30 metres
• hard stand for about 120 yachts
• 60- and 80-tonne travel lifts
• 24-hour security
• IDD telephone to berths
• toilets and showers
• power and water to berths
• supermarket
• several restaurants, pub on-site
• cheap Thai restaurants on main road nearby
• storage lockers
• full-service laundry
• club house with gym, pool table
• swimming pool
• Internet access, plugs for laptops
• mail holding
