King's Cup
The grandest and longest running of Southeast
Asian regattas, the Phuket King's Cup is held each year in December
to coincide with the birthday of Thailand's King Bumiphol. Lots of fast
boats, serious sailors, socialites and hangers on. The premier event
on Phuket's sporting/social calendar.

Raja Muda International Regatta
The first regatta on the Asian Yachting Circuit
season sails up the north coast of Malaysia from Port Klang to Pangkor,
Penang and Langkawi in November. Attracts both serious racers and
more relaxed cruisers. Sea legs are followed by two days of harbour
races in Langkawi.

Phang Nga Bay Regatta
A sailing race among the towering karst islands
in majestic Phang Nga Bay, a regatta for sailors who believe a good
time is more important than order of finish. Held over Chinese New
Year, which falls in February or March. Initially a three-day event,
it was stretched to four days — the extra night's party a temptation
too difficult to resist.

Royal Langkawi Regatta
This annual regatta, begun in 2003, has created
much positive buzz among Andaman sailors and those visiting from abroad;
well run, good parties and competitive racing.

The Champagne Run
This race is a prelim for Thai-based boats entered in the Royal Langkawi
Regatta, a fun, overnight run from Phuket's Ao Chalong to Rebak Island
off Langkawi.

Phuket Race Week
Fitting nicely into an off-season hole in the Phuket yachting calendar,
this event in the middle of the southwest monsoon should get lots
and lots of wind, and usually does. Race Week is run out of the lovely
Evason Phuket Resort.

Andaman Sea Rally
Not a regatta, but a rally for both power and sail from Phuket to
the Andaman Islands. Unfortunately, the January 2005 event had to
be called off due to the Dec 26, 2004 tsunami which caused much destruction
in the Andaman and Nicobar islands.
